How to Get More Clients for Your Photography Business
If you're looking to grow your photography business and attract more clients, you're in the right place. Over my first year in business, I made over six figures as a photographer and videographer. In this article, I'll share the exact strategy I used to consistently attract clients—without relying on a huge social media following.
1. Utilizing Google Ads to Attract High-Intent Clients
One of the most effective ways I attract clients is through Google Ads. When people search for services like "photographer in Japan" or "couple photographer in Japan," my ad appears at the top of their search results. This method allows me to reach potential clients who are actively looking for my services, rather than hoping they randomly find me on social media.
To maximize success, I target specific countries where my ideal clients are located and optimize my ads for high-converting keywords. When users click on my ad, they’re directed to a landing page that is clear, concise, and optimized for conversions.
2. Retargeting Through Display Ads
Not all potential clients book immediately. That’s why retargeting is essential. By using a small Google tracking code on my website, I can show display ads to people who previously visited my site. These ads serve as reminders and increase the chances that they return to book my services.
3. Leveraging Facebook & Instagram for Retargeting
Unlike Google, where users are actively searching for services, Facebook and Instagram users are not necessarily looking for a photographer. That’s why I use these platforms primarily for retargeting. I ensure that people who visited my website through Google Ads continue to see my services in their feed, increasing the likelihood of them booking.
Additionally, I run occasional promotional campaigns, such as giveaways or special offers, to generate more leads.
4. Using Lead Magnets and Email Marketing
Another powerful strategy is lead magnets, such as free guides on planning a proposal in Japan or choosing the perfect elopement location. When visitors download these guides, I collect their contact information and nurture them through email marketing. This keeps my services top of mind, ensuring that when they’re ready to book, they think of me first.
5. The Power of Blogging and SEO
Many people assume blogging is only for SEO, but it’s much more than that. By providing valuable content—such as tips for planning a destination wedding in Japan—I build trust and establish myself as an expert. Over time, this increases my bookings, as people see me as a helpful resource.
The three main ways I attract photography clients are:
Google Ads – Targeting high-intent searchers.
Retargeting (Google & Social Media Ads) – Keeping my services top of mind.
Lead Magnets & Blogging – Nurturing leads through valuable content and email marketing.
While these methods require an initial investment, they deliver a high return on investment. For every dollar I spend on ads, I generate 15-17 dollars in revenue. If you're serious about scaling your photography business, these strategies are worth implementing.
